Saturday Hike
Me and T went on a roadtrip out in the country this past Saturday.
It was a gorgeous day to go out and explore. While driving on a
back road we found this old gate. The sign on top says Center Hill
Lake.
We found a trail and started walking to see where it would take
us. After walking a long distance, we finally ended up at the back
waters of Center Hill Lake. You can see the little boat dock in the
upper left of the picture. We also saw a man and two kids enjoying
a day of fishing. I bet they were wondering where we came
from :0)
The view looking back toward the trail. It was a fun day and an
enjoyable hike. It was also fun discovering a place we had never
been before. I hated to see the day end.

Stuff Growing on a Tree
Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day!
With temps in the mid 60's, me and T headed
out in the Jeep. We ended up on a hiking trail
near Center Hill Lake. Walking through the woods
we came upon this tree. Not sure if these are
'shrooms or some kind of fungus. Whatever it was
it was interesting looking.
Close up of mushroom/fungus. More Center Hill hiking pictures
to come :0)

Snow No!
Well, the winter storm watch turned out to be
a big bust!
The rain that fell yesterday was supposed to turn over to all snow
late last night, but it kept raining throughout the night with temps
staying well above freezing.
It didn't start snowing until this morning and we ended up with
about an inch here in Smith County.
It was just enough to close schools for the day.
The snow is almost all gone now, but was pretty
while it lasted. Somehow I think this won't be the
last snowfall we will have this winter.

It's Baaaaaaack!
Terry took these pictures before heading out for work this
morning. We had our lastest round of snowfall late yesterday
into last night. There wasn't much snow, maybe an inch or two,
but the roads were pretty icy. We had some sleet to fall before
it all changed over to snow.
Terry took our Jeep to work this morning. He said he had to put
it in four wheel drive just to get out of the driveway.
Beautiful full moon setting at 6:45 this morning.

Summer Flashback
With more winter weather on the way, I thought I would post this
picture from last summer. I took this picture on July 13, 20010. I
can't wait to see these beautiful butterflies in my garden again!

Blue Jay Way
While there was snow on the ground last week, I threw out some
bread for the birds to eat. The Blue Jays took advantage of the
feast. Our cat, Libby, ate whatever bread was leftover :0)
Blue Jay chilling out in one of our Bradford Pear trees.
The blue jay is an attractive winter bird. He fits well into
the wintry scenery--bright, clear sky, and the blue shadows
on the snow. After his burst of noise in the autumn, he becomes
comparatively quiet, and during the colder months uses mainly
his jeer call, and this not overmuch. But on soft mornings in
January and February, when the temperature is rising, we may
hear his sweetly whistled teekle note. Tea-cup, tea-cup, he
sings--a sure sign of a mild day.

The snow is gone now, but I wanted to share a couple of pictures
I took on the evening of Jan. 10th. I got a chance to use my new
remote shutter release.

Peek a Boo!
Blades of grass sticking out of the recent snowfall. I love the glints
of color coming off of the ice crystals!

"Here Comes the Sun and I Say It's Alright." ~ George Harrison
The sun finally came out today. It was a welcome
sight!
This isn't an ice sculpture. It came out of our cat's water bowl.
When it's this cold it's very hard to keep water for them outside.
Ah, beautiful blue sky! The snow is finally starting to melt.
Our cats took full advantage of the sunshine today. They're
probably getting cabin fever too as they stay holed up in the
garage during these cold, snowy days.

Is It? Could It Be?
I was excited to see the sun make an appearance yesterday.
Unfortunately, it was short lived. Hopefully it will make an
appearance again very soon and hang around for awhile!

School's Out for Snow
Our neighbor is a bus driver for the Smith county school system.
His bus has been sitting idle for three days now as school's here
have been closed since Monday. I have a feeling the kids won't
be going back to school for the rest of the week. It's been awhile
since we've seen three straight days of snow.

Winter Greetings from Smith County Tennessee!
Well, the weather forecasters were right! We woke up this morning
to a blanket of white in Middle Tennessee. We were under a winter
storm warning last night. Here in Smith county we got a little over
3 inches of snow. I know that doesn't sound like much, but for a
state whose average annual snowfall is 4 to 6 inches, that is a lot.
I took these pictures this morning from my back yard looking
toward the hills that surround our house.
I took this shot with a long lens from my back porch looking east.
The evergreen trees on the hill are all snow covered and are
absolutely gorgeous!
