Cicadas

This is the year of the 13 year Cicadas. I found these shells under
our pear trees. Terry and I walk every afternoon when he gets
home from work. We see the shells and live Cicadas all over the
sidewalks, sometimes piles of them. We've been hearing them in
the trees as well. They're pretty cool little creatures with big red
eyes. Hopefully I can get a picture of a live Cicada.

They are the gnarliest of creatures, aren't they? They're stuck all over everything in our yard, but I have yet to hear them. I've seen only a couple of the actual bugs and they were dead. When I walked through the yard to watch for Shelby this afternoon, I looked down and saw one attached to my toe!! Ack! Freaked me out even though it's just an empty shell. They are creepy. Great pic!

And I'm so glad Blogger finally got its act together and got us straightened out :)

I'm glad Blogger got us straightened out too and that they got our lost posts back! Cicada shells are kind of creepy, but I find Cicadas to be fascinating too.

More creepy bug shells! I still haven't seen any around the house.

Kerry and I watched one "hatch" today... pretty cool and gross. We can hear them roar but it's not too bad so far. I bet the birds' bellies are full! I hope they eat em all up, ick!
