Random Macro

I've really been enjoying my macro lens! I still have a lot of
learning to do though. The key to good macro photography is
focus. It's hard to keep the camera still. Shot this picture of
a Praying Mantis this morninig. In your face :0)

Mantis

I found this brown praying mantis on our back door threshold.

The insects range in color, usually looking pea green or brown,
but there are also mantises in various shades of green and even
pink.

The most interesting fact about the praying mantis is that a
female will occasionally eat a male to provide nutrition to their
developing young.

This is the Praying Mantis I found in my Iris bed a few days ago.
I picked him up with a stick and put him in a safer place. Plus it
was easier for me to get some pictures of him. He looks like he
has a little smile on his face :)

I found this Praying Mantis while I was working in my Iris bed.
I almost didn't see him because he looked like an Iris leaf :)

Praying Mantis

I found this brown Praying Mantis on the window screen a couple
of days ago.

The name "mantis" comes from the Greek word for 'prophet' or 'soothsayer.'


Up close and personal. Smile for the camera :)

The praying mantis has very good eyesight and can see movement
up to 60 feet away from them. They also have ultrasonic hearing.

Mr. Mantis...Say a Prayer for Me

This Praying Mantis took a fancy to the new ceiling fan on
our backporch. I love these little critters. They look like a
cross between a grasshopper and an alien.




He seemed to enjoy hanging upside down.


I got him onto a broom and took him down to sit on one
of our sunflowers.
