For the Love of Gardening

My husband Terry and I share a passion for gardening. A
few years ago we built four raised planters in our backyard.
We started our 2010 garden almost a month ago. I can't
believe how it's taken off, thanks to lots of rain recently.

We have two different kinds of cucumbers. This plant is
a burpless variety. We've already had one cucumber from
this plant. Just enough to make you want more, but there
is another one ready to pick...oh darn :)

And here it is. I found this one while tending to the garden
this morning.

This is an Armenian cucumber plant. Armenians are a
sweeter variety than the Burpless.

Tomatoes are a must in the garden. We live off those things
in the summer. Terry came up with an idea for a way to put
bird netting over our plants so the Mockingbirds won't get to
them. For some reason, Mockingbirds love our tomatoes. We
built this last Saturday.

We haven't gotten around to building a frame for bird
netting for these tomato plants yet. We may get to that
this weekend.

We have several varities of tomatoes this year. I can't
wait for these beauties to ripen. Yum!! These are called
Early Girl. We also have Beefstakes as well.

We're growing two different kinds of cherry tomatoes. We
have one red cherry plant and a yellow cherry plant. These
are the yellow cherries. We've never grown them before and
we hope they do well!

These are Clemson spineless okra plants. Okra always does
well in our garden. Okra loves heat and we have plenty of
that in Tennessee this time of year.

This is our flower garden. We're growing Giant Double mix
color Zinnias and Red Sun sunflowers. As you can see the
sunflowers are already getting tall. We leave these in the garden
after they've died out. The birds love them!

Our squash plant is huge! I can't believe how big this thing
has gotten in the past two weeks! We had our first squash
for dinner last night.

Baby squash :) Too cute and so tasty!

He who plants a garden, plants happiness! Ain't it the
truth!
