The Tennessee State Bird

The peak of our roof is this Mockingbird's favorite place
to sit and serenade us. He and his misses are nesting in our
Holly tree. I love his songs! Individual males have repertoires
of 50 to 200 songs; females sing as well, but more quietly and
less often than males.

The Mockingbird is also the state bird of Arkansas, Florida,
Mississippi and Texas.

Hush little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

Nice pictures! I love mockingbirds' songs. We used to have one that would sit on the light pole out back and sing his little heart out. On a sad note, I was driving to pick up Sarah from play practice today, and a mockingbird just fell out of the sky right in front of my car! I looked in the rear view mirror and it was flopping in the road. Strangest thing I've seen in a while.
