Beach Trip!

We headed out to Lichfield Beach, South Carolina on Saturday
May 22nd. I snapped these shots on Interstate 40 heading toward
the Great Smoky Mountains. This is one of my favorite parts of the
trip!

Heading east on I-40

I love going through the tunnels and honking your horn even
though the signs say not to ;)

It's great to be back. I'll post more pics from our trip tomorrow!

My blog will be on hiatus for a few days! I'll update next Saturday, the 29th :)

Mr. Wren

Here's our favorite little homewrecking Wren perched on a
limb above his home in our Tulip Poplar tree. We had to move
our small bird house out of the tree where Mr. and Mrs. Tree
Swallow reside. They weren't getting along very well with Mr.
Wren.

He's such a fun little bird to watch and you can always tell
when our cats are around because he throws a fit :)

Homewrecker

There was a Chickadee nesting in this bird house until Mr.
Wren showed up. The following pictures show him destroying
the Chickadee nest by pulling it out of the bird house bit by bit.
Wrens are notorious for stealing nesting sites.

It's Gardening Time in Tennessee

Me and Terry finally got our garden planted a couple of
weeks ago. Thought I would document the progress with
some pictures.

We have four raised beds. This year we planted yellow
and red cherry tomatoes, okra, squash, two kinds of
cucumbers, sunflowers and zinnias.

Here's to a prosperous growing season and plenty of produce :)

“Life is a rose; beware of the thorns.”

Our rose bush is in bloom. It's beautiful this
year. I guess because of all the rain we've had.
Just hope the Japanese beetles stay away!

Red roses are my absolute favorites!

The Tennessee State Bird

The peak of our roof is this Mockingbird's favorite place
to sit and serenade us. He and his misses are nesting in our
Holly tree. I love his songs! Individual males have repertoires
of 50 to 200 songs; females sing as well, but more quietly and
less often than males.

The Mockingbird is also the state bird of Arkansas, Florida,
Mississippi and Texas.

Hush little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

a lot of ailments, but I never heard of one who suffered from

a great weekend everyone!

Button and the Blackbird

The Button pup didn't know what to think about this baby
Blackbird.

Checking it out :)

Hmmmmm, smells like chicken.

Button had a lot of fun barking at the little fella. The baby bird
took it all in stride and was never in any danger. The Button pup
wouldn't hurt a fly :)

I love the look on Button's face. Shortly after I took this picture,
I got our little friend to a safe place. Hopefully he'll be ok.

Bye Bye Blackbird

I found this baby Blackbird sitting in the gravel near our garage
this morning. He was treading on thin ice because we have two
cats. Guess he just left the nest because he still couldn't fly very
well.

Sqwacking for his mom. Hopefully she's nearby. He's so ugly,
he's almost cute :) I hope the cats don't find him!

Tulip Poplar Blooms

Our Tulip Poplar trees are in full bloom and they are gorgeous!
